One of the things I love about cooking is that it's such a traditional art. More often than not, family recipes are passed down from one generation to another.
A traditional recipe that we have in our family is one for "Gauflettes," a waffle shaped cookie. This recipe is a Belgian tradition. I believe the original title may have been "Gaufrettes." After asking my grandmother about it, she said that her father always called them Gauflettes, but his mother had died when he was only a child. This being the case, the name for these treats might have gone awry. Since we've only ever known them to be "gauflettes," though, that is what we stick with.
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon vanilla
1 pound butter (real butter, not margarine)
1 tablespoon baking powder
8 eggs
2 cups granulated sugar
4 3/4 cups of flour
Mix eggs, vanilla, sugar and baking powder. Add flour until it is a pancake like consistency. The recipe calls for around 5 cups, but I've found that it's a little under that.
Melt the butter and add slowly to other ingredients. Bake on a gauflette iron.
Gauflette irons were irons that were heated over an open flame. Seeing as many people probably will not have one, we use a waffle iron and it works just as good! Be sure to spray the waffle iron before use!
Note: Dough will thicken as it stands. This is normal.
While these cookies look like waffles, remember, THEY ARE NOT! These are not to be eaten with syrup, as they are a cookie! They are often made around Christmas, but I enjoy them any time of the year. :) These are very good with a cup of coffee or milk.

A Whole New Year of Creation
Hello everyone! My name is Brittany, and this is my first blog post on Culinary Cabaret! The subject is pretty obvious, but some of you might be wondering where I got the title. The answer is simple:
So now you know!
The purpose for this blog is a few things. 1. To share my creations/recipes. 2. To record my recipes in a digital place so that they're never lost! 3. To entertain and learn.
I'm not really looking for a fan-base with this blog, moreover I'm just looking to share tips, recipes, and whatnot should someone want to try them. Additionally, like I said, I like a place to store my recipes. More often than not I'll get a hankering to cook something while not at home. This poses a problem if I don't have my recipe book with me. (My memory isn't that good)
I hope everyone enjoys reading this and maybe makes a recipe or two! I look forward to posting!! Additionally feel free to comment with changes to recipes or things you've tried yourself!
